Cirrus is a high altitude cloud, being situated at heights between 6000 and 13000 meters. It’s formed by converting water vapors into ice crystals, and is found in very thin layers. The white fiber appearance is due to the strong winds that continually shape it. These clouds predict the arrival of the warm front, situated at approximately 1000 kilometers distance.
The picture was captured with a Nikon D40X camera and Nikon 55-200mm VR AF-S f/4-5.6G ED lens using these settings: exposure time – 1/320 seconds, ISO – 100, focal length – 55 mm, lens aperture – 5,6.
