Bicaz is the largest artificial lake in Romania. It was formed on the upper tributary of the Bistrita River, by building a dam which serves the hydroelectric central Bicaz-Stejaru. The lake covers a maximum area of 7000 hectares and stores a volume of 1.25 billion m3 of water. Its maximum depth is 90 m in the dam area.
