Mures is the second river in Romania, after the Danube, with a length of 760 km and a surface area of 27890 km2. It springs from the Hasmas Mountains, forms the Deda-Toplita gorge that separates the mountain ranges of the Calimani (in north) and Gurghiu (in south), then crosses the Transylvania, the Western Hills, and flows into the Tisza river (Hungary).
