Hornbeam – Carpinus betulus, is widespread in Europe and Southeast Asia. It grows to a height of 25 feet, at altitudes between 100 and 1200 meters, being met even in mixture with fir forests. The age rarely exceeds 120 years. The wood is tough and often used to manufacture tails of gears.
The image was captured with a Nikon D40X camera and Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX lens, using these settings: focal length – 31 mm, exposure time – 1/30 sec, ISO – 100, F number – F/4.5.
