The Potentilla genus is composed of about 500 species of herbs from the rose family Rosaceea and is spreaded on the entire Holarctic region. Potentilla simplex blooms from April until August, depending on the region. It has yellow flowers with five petals. Common Cinquefoil is an edible plant. The leaves and young shoots may be consumed cooked or as salads. The plant is known for its high tannin content. In the folk medicine, the infusion prepared from the roots is known as having antiseptic, tonic, astringent and anti-haemorrhagic properties, being used in the treatment of the wounds, bleeding and skin eruptions.
