Digitalis purpurea known as Common Foxglove is native to Europe. The plant contains cardiac glycosides that are used in the treatment of the heart failure and atrial fibrillation. Digitoxin and Digoxin extracted from the leaves increase the cardiac contractility, reduce the ventricular rate for atrial fibrillation with a rapid ventricular response and have also a diuretic effect. Signs of the poisoning are nausea, vomiting, slow pulse.
