Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is an herb native to India. It is cultivated by humans about 5000 years. Many chefs consider basil to be “king of spices”. Is rich in vitamin A, vitamin B6, calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium, being a medicinal herb, used in treatment and prevention of many diseases. Also in some cultures is a plant associated with divinity, being used in religious rituals.
