The sour cherry (Prunus cerasus) is native to Southwest Asia and Europe. A special characteristic of the sour cherry flowers is the self-pollination, unlike other cherry species that have not this quality. Ripe fruits are sour, which is why some people do not eat them, but, instead, have a great smell and flavour.
